Parental Admiration

**Warning: My attitude is completely unchristian but I need a place to blow off steam. So please read with a grain of salt!**

So if you have known me for any amount of time, you probably realize that there are a set of grandparents that I continue to yap about and a set of grandparents which are rarely discussed. These rarely discussed grandparents are my Dad's parents and have stressed many of the Ford family to the breaking point. And if you have known me for this amount of time, you probably also know that it is impossible for me to say no. In fact, I cannot say it in any way, shape or form. So that is the pre-story to the story of the week.

This week, I answered a call from my grandparents that Pepa was in the hospital and I needed to come get my grandmother. (Cringe #1) I am not close with my grandmother and she tends to stress out everyone around her. So I go to retrieve (sp?) my grandmother and I am told Pepa is being transferred to Orange Park Medical Center...long story short, his stomach has been pulled through his diaphram and is sitting between his lungs. (Cringe #2) So I (and Mama Ford) have spent the last 72 hours with people that we generally don't associate with. (Cringe #3)

I tell you this for a reason. In the last 72 hours, I have learned more about my Dad than I thought possible. You see, my Dad must have had patience literally oozing out of his ears to be able to deal with this family. He must have had a great filter on his mouth because I rarely heard him discuss these problems with us kids. He also must have spent some serious time prepping and cooling off from spending time with them. I didn't think it was possible to miss my Dad more but I was so wrong. I miss him more than I can possibly illustrate.

However, my Mom is a true champion also. Our family always jokes that I got all of my customer service skills from my Dad. Wrong! This lady is remarkable. Her tact has been wonderful and she is always there to let me roll my eyes at her. She is navigating the nursing home waters. And on more than one occasion has she let me walk away to regroup. (Angels singing in the background.)

Ok friends. I'm done complaining. Now, onto good news. Surgery went well today. Pepa is off of the ventilator. My grandmother is sound asleep and I get at least two hours of quiet time. Let's hope today goes just as well!!

Goodnight!
